WHY I TRAIN:

I was a group fitness instructor at Penn State and really enjoyed seeing the impact exercise has on people. Training gives me more of a personal approach to helping people achieve their goals, whether it is pain management, weight loss, or an increase in strength. I enjoy seeing people realize the positive impact exercise can have on their life.

Coaching gymnastics, running, anything Penn State (especially Penn State Dance MaraTHON), and marshmallows!

Certifications:

Hobbies /Interests:

I am a bit of a "fitness-a-holic." Exercise is part of what helps to keep me grounded, as I maintain a rather rigorous schedule. I participate in a number cycling and running events throughout the spring/summer/fall months. I love being outdoors and exercise is great excuse to spend some time outside. One of my aspirations as a suburbanite of Philadelphia was to complete the Broad Street Run, which I did this past year!
I am where I am today because of an internship with FTI and my subsequent hiring. The variety of clients that FTI services has taught me that each client brings something different to their training session. I find that I have the opportunity to learn from a client, at times, equally as much as I have to offer them. It is incredible to be able to see the physical challenges that the body can overcome, if the mind is willing. It has been my exposure to FTI's Fighting Back Program that ultimately encouraged me to go back to school to pursue physical therapy. I recently began working at the practice of Christine F. Hayes PT in Paoli. I am excited to now be able to offer clientele my knowledge on both fitness and therapeutic recovery from injury.

HOMETOWN: Exton, PA

Education: B.A. Muhlenberg College, Political Science, B.S. Immaculata University, Exercise Science

Why I train:

As a college athlete, I was told after several injuries that my body was just not made for running and basketball, and that unless I gave them up, I would continue to suffer injuries. I refused to believe that my body was simply incapable of these activities, and I began to research functional exercises that would help my body handle the strain. Ten years later, I count trail running as one of my favorite activities! I love to help others break that train of thought that they simply can't participate in their favorite activities anymore.

EDUCATION:

MS Exercise Physiology National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer, Performance Enhancement Specialist & an Integrated Flexibility Specialist. Recognized by the Titleist Performance Institute as a Golf Fitness Instructor. Certified Functional Movement Screen practitioner

Professional Experience:

I have been a Personal Trainer and Strength Coach for 18 years. In that time I have successfully helped clients with weight loss, fat loss, and sport-specific goals, as well as guided clients in the transition from post-injury Physical Therapy to normal activity.

MY TRAINING PHILOSOPHY:

You must train the body as it was designed to function. It's not about how much you can bench press or how long you can stay on the elliptical trainer. It's about conditioning the body to perform the tasks we want to perform, at a high level and without injury.

WHY I TRAIN:

I love what I do because I have the daily opportunity to positively impact people's lives. To hear one of your clients report a 10-pound weight loss or to see another run a mile without back pain is a great thrill for me. The bottom line is this: if you have a fitness-related goal, you have to get up, get moving, and keep moving. Once you make that commitment, you are golden.
